MILES MAYER VARSITY HEAD COACH
Miles Mayer begins his first season as the Bobcats Head Coach. Coach Mayer joined the Bobcats in 2014 as a Varsity Assistant Coach, overseeing the Bobcat pitchers. In, 2016, Coach Mayer continued to lead an impressive Bobcat pitching staff, with two of his pitchers earning All-Area honors (Zac Uecker, Charlie Davidson). Uecker, a left-hander, earned a scholarship to NCAA Division I Mississippi Valley State after a successful Bobcat career under Mayer. In 2015, Coach Mayer guided the Bobcat pitchers to success again, posting a 2.80 team ERA. In his first season (2014), Mayer led a talented pitching staff to an impressive 2.56 team ERA. Coach Mayer hails from Grafton, Wis. where he was a two-time All-North Shore Conference pitcher and team Most Valuable Player for Grafton High School. Coach Mayer holds the Grafton High School single season and career records for strikeouts thrown by a pitcher. Coach Mayer also participated in hockey and soccer at Grafton High School.
After graduating from Grafton HS, Mayer chose to attend Edgewood College in Madison, WI where he pitched for four seasons (2009-2012) for the Eagles, two of those seasons (2011 & 2012) while Coach Pavlue was an Assistant Coach for Edgewood College.
Coach Mayer pitched significant innings for the Eagles in all four of his seasons, throwing in 7 games as a freshman including 2 starts. He earned his first collegiate victory on April 3, 2009 after a 5 inning, 7 strikeout performance against Maranatha Baptist. Just a week later on April 11, 2009, Mayer threw 3 scoreless innings in relief against Lakeland College while striking out 4 to earn his first collegiate save.
Mayer's sophomore season in 2010 saw a significant increase in innings as he started 5 games on the mound for the Eagles, racking up 26 innings pitched. Mayer finished with a 2-2 record while pitching his first career collegiate complete game against Milwaukee Engineering on April 18, 2010.
Mayer continued his success on the mound in his 2011 junior season when he appeared in 8 games, making 6 starts and throwing 28 innings for the Eagles.
Mayer saved his best season for his senior year in 2012 as he emerged as the Eagles top starting pitcher, appearing in 11 games, starting 10 while throwing 74 innings. Mayer finished with a 4-3 record including 2 complete games while also being named to the Northern Athletics Conference All-Sportsmanship Team.
Coach Mayer currently ranks 13th in Edgewood College history in career victories, 9th in career appearances, 7th in games started, 10th in innings pitched, and 6th in runners picked off.
In addition to Coach Mayer's playing experience, he brings with him a wealth of coaching experience. Mayer spent the 2011 & 2012 seasons as a Head Coach in the Edgewood College Fall Instructional High School Baseball League. Mayer also has served as an Assistant Varsity Coach for his alma mater, Grafton HS for the 2012 & 2013 seasons. Also in 2013, Mayer was a Junior Varsity Coach for Verona High School in Verona, Wis.
Coach Mayer currently teaches science at North Port High School.
